Well Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing followed up ‘Nocturne’ rather quickly with a nice little EP entitled ‘Empty Estate’. I’m rather impressed with it. His sound keeps evolving while maintaining all the dream pop elements that make up Wild Nothing. This album is a bit more spaced out with long instrumental tie-ins between each track which adds to the whole feel of this album. It’s a less planned out, more sprawling psychedelic production with a lot of character.
I couldn’t stop staring at this record when I first saw it, and assumed that it would be really great. If you’re in the mood for a little italo-disco, then Sylvi Foster (aka Domenico Ricchini) is what you’ve been looking for! These tracks were originally recorded in 1979 - 1982, and was just reissued in 2010. These singles are super groovin’…check out the track below.
Ahh Bibio, the soundtrack to my soul. Stephen Wilkinson just released his 7th studio album entitled ‘Silver Wilkinson’. I managed to get my hands on this beautiful vinyl early and after listening through it a couple times I found myself mesmerized by his warm analog production. Its sure to please all fans of ‘Ambivalence Avenue’. Check out this song entitled “You” and sink into it.
RomancingVinyl will still be a blog about random music posts that Mark or I enjoy, but with a tweak in the concept. My record collection grows each week and Mark is starting to build his collection, so we’re going to start posting about the records that we’ve bought. There will probably be the random posts about tracks that aren’t available on vinyl yet, but you get the idea. Small change in the concept of the blog, but the same deal. Makes sense though: Romancing Vinyl.
Jose Gonzalez first introduced his side project, Junip, with the debut album, “Fields,” back in 2010. Three year later, the Swedish trio are back with their new self-titled album set to be released next week. I’m super excited for this new release from Junip, and I’m extra excited because Mark & I are finally going to get to see the band this summer. Junip never disappoint, but you can be the judge…check out the video below or you can take a listen to the entire album right now here!
Well, this blog has been neglected for the past three months! Hopefully things will pick up on here soon. Mark will be posting more often as well…so look out for that!
Toro Y Moi (aka Chazwick Bundick) just released his newest album, “Anything in Return”. I personally really enjoy the album, although it’s quite different than his past material. The new album is a little more loungy-electronic, which I could see playing at some fancy bar. It’s definitely worth listening to, but for now…check out the video for ‘Say That’ below!
Soo….it looks like I won’t be updating the blog as much as I wanted to this month because the hard drive on my macbook crashed last night. Hopefully it can be repaired!
The new collaboration between Solange Knowles (yes, Beyonce’s sister) & Blood Orange is probably going to be one of my new favorites for summer! “True”, the debut EP released on Chris Taylor’s (member of Grizzly Bear) label, Terrible Records, was out digitally last September and on vinyl/CD this past Tuesday. Sharing the same label as Twin Shadow and CANT, I’d say that Solange kind of sounds like 80’s new wave/chillwave-synth-R&B. Check out the track below.
